When I was in high school instant messenger was becoming popular, now Facebook has incorporated instant messaging with social networking. Many other websites have become available to choose from enabling different methods of communication such as wiki’s or blogs. Similar to how the video stated, Internet users have many choices when it comes to communicating. Users must experiment to see which methods work best for their needs, multiple methods or creating one’s own flavor of communication is the greatest solution in today’s world!

Response to Social Media in Plain English video
I found it interesting how the author related social networking to everyone being able to develop their own flavors of ice cream. For years, people all had only the same methods of communication, either by writing a letter, talking on the telephone or talking face to face.
Now through the Internet, many more establish methods of communication exist. I must confess that when I was in high school and college....I wrote letters to my friends and family! That seems so archaic now, doesn't it?! And that was about 24 years ago (time has flown!). We have now grown and evolved with IM, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (the current choice of my high school children), text messaging, blogs, wikis, Google ,etc. The choices are just crazy! Notice that I didn't even mention email as a method. I just read an article about email being extinct, except for within businesses/Schools. My personal e-mail tends to just be filled with spam and advertisements, while I weed out the one or two important ones that I need to see. Users really do need to pick a "flavor" or experiment with a "sundae" of choices these days to determine what works best for them. For me...I try to stay where my own children are...but I truly miss writing letters!
